The Clockwork Orange estate in Thamesmead residents staying put

The few residents still living in a brutalist estate in south-east London marked for redevelopment have called developers "pure evil" for trying to displace them. A scheme to demolish the Lesnes Estate in Thamesmead and replace it with 1,950 new homes was approved by Bexley Council in 2022. Since the plan was approved to redevelop the 1960s estate, made famous for featuring in the 1971 film A Clockwork Orange, most of its residents have found accommodation elsewhere.

Reform UK 'plans to separate outer London boroughs from the GLA'

Reform UK's first directly-elected London councillor has outlined a bold vision for the city he says is backed by Nigel Farage, calling for outer boroughs to split from the Greater London Authority (GLA). Alan Cook won the Bromley Common and Holwood by-election on July 24 in what he believes was a major step in showing the rest of the city the strength of the Reform vote as well as exposing what he deems Conservative weaknesses.

Post Office to remain open after being incorrectly named on national branch closure list

A Newbury Post Office will not close after a petition to save it gained almost 800 signatures in a single day when it was incorrectly listed by news outlets as being at risk of being shut down. It was announced yesterday (Wednesday) that up to 115 Post Office branches across the country could be shut down, leaving around 1,000 jobs at risk and several communities without access to postal services.
